Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Regional Safety Supervisor is responsible for frontline safety initiatives and tasks across multiple locations, with a focus on onboarding, orientation, equipment utilization, and regulatory / policy compliance. Recognizes, assesses, and controls safety and health hazards within a specific region, and works with management and internal departments to minimize occupational health and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable regulations.
What you’ll be doing
- Responsible for training new drivers, existing drivers, and driver mentors to include orientation, onboarding, and continuing employee engagement
- Responsible for ensuring all drivers possess the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in good working condition, issuing new and replacement PPE when required, ensuring employees have a clear understanding of the importance of PPE, and how to effectively utilize PPE
- Conduct reoccurring inspections, ensuring appropriate coding; complete inspection forms for all safety devices and equipment required for job tasks
- Ensure employees perform necessary inspections of equipment prior to operating, in accordance with related regulations
- Monitor the appropriate utilization and maintenance of equipment. Report findings to appropriate manager or supervisor
- Assist with all aspects of training and provide ongoing training as new initiatives are implemented
- Monitor employees’ use of tools and equipment, ensuring standard utilization as intended by the manufacturer.
- Conducts regular safety meetings, including daily job site “toolbox” meetings, with drivers and technicians
- Perform and document daily job site audits to ensure compliance with site and company safety policies/standards, as well as applicable industry standards. Communicate all findings to appropriate supervision
- Ensures employees carry out the necessary training credentials to perform job specific tasks
- Assist in pre-job hazard analysis
- Monitor compliance with the Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Assist with verifying that all required training has taken place and assesses the need for additional training
- Assists with accident/incident investigations, identifying contributing factors, and root cause analysis
- Performs related administrative responsibilities as required, including driver qualification files, and accident and injury related documents and filings
- Adheres to all relevant health, safety and environmental procedures, instructions, and controls in order to guarantee the safety of employees and compliance
- Helps with development, implementation, monitoring, and managing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts comprehensive safety and hygiene audits
Qualifications
- A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience- 3+ years of experience in a transportation or law enforcement safety-related field
- Experience with presentations and presenting to cross-functional teams
- Experience in process improvement analysis and review
- Completion of / current certification from approved safety / compliance organization
- Advanced knowledge of federal / state motor carrier regulations, including (OSHA, DOT, state, and EPA)
- Strong verbal / written communication skills
- Intermediate PC skills, including MS Office
- Decision-making, reasoning, and analytical skills- Supervisory and influencing skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between tasks; attention to detail
- Function in a fast-paced environment
- Travel 50 to 75% of the time
- Work extended hours, including occasional evenings, weekend
